Arsenal Linked With Ligue 1 Playmaker – But What Could He Offer The Gunners?

At the age of 22 with 75 first team appearances for Lyon in Ligue 1, life seems sweet for Clement Grenier at present. And now, as a result of his fine form, it appears that Arsenal are now interested in his services – according to reports from the Mirror. But who is he and why is he so highly sought after?

Grenier is a central midfielder who loves to get on the ball. He has impeccable timing in his passing and his decision making makes him near-impossible to play against. So far this season he has made 24 key passes in his 17 appearances and has continually opened teams up on his own.

He’s not as nimble as Santi Cazorla but his vision whilst in possession is brilliant to watch. He is at his best when sat just behind the striker but he can drop back and drift into the wider areas when needed.

His crossing is far beyond anything that is currently at Arsene Wenger’s disposal and his ability to shoot from distance is second to none. When the ball is floating around the edge of the opponents’ area there is no one I would want running onto it over Grenier.
