Underachievers: 3 Chelsea Players Who Need To Pull Their Socks Up

Despite Chelsea sitting third in the Premier League table, just two points leaders Arsenal, there are some who still aren’t pulling their weight in the side. Here are three Chelsea players who need to pull their socks up, in my opinion.

1) Michael Essien

The bulky African is a shadow of his former self and it is frustrating to see. It could be the fact that he isn’t as involved as he is used to, or perhaps it is simply due to his aging legs.

The 31-year-old has played just four league games so far this season and made next to no impact in those. The reason I include in the list is that he is getting no younger and I feel that if he is to save his career then he will need to up his game, both in training and when he receives game time.

2) Demba Ba

The former Newcastle man has never been the most prolific, but this season he has really failed to make a mark on the Blues side. He has scored just once in eight games so far and created next to nothing, making it no surprise that he is seen as third choice behind Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o to most.

3) Fernando Torres

The Spaniard is hardly someone I would call an effective forward, in fact I would go as far as saying he was the opposite. He has scored three goals in his 15 outings, and has two assists to his name but if Chelsea are serious about winning the league then their forwards will have to start scoring.
