When Mario Balotelli left the Premier League last year there were thousands of upset spectators. His tantrums on the pitch and the antics off it saw him become an unlikely hero to some, despite others slating him for exactly the same reasons.
After 12 months back in the Italian capital Balotelli’s name reared its head in regards to a move to Chelsea, who are apparently on the search for a striker, but the Daily Star have quashed the rumours with quotes from the man himself. While some of us are saddened that he won’t be back this month, here is why I think it is a good thing for Chelsea.
As well as the trouble that he carries with him, Balotelli’s attitude on the pitch has seen his performances suffer. He has so much potential but he very rarely fills it. If it wasn’t for penalties, the Italy international would have scored only five goals in his 13 Serie A outings this season.
It is still a hatful more than what the likes of Demba Ba has produced, but the last time he worked with Jose Mourinho it didn’t exactly go to plan.
I would suggest that they would be better off without Balotelli, but do think they still need a new forward.
