Despite Arsenal having Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini in the centre of midfield, it now seems that the Gunners are closing in a deal for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho – if you believe the Metro, that is. The 21-year-old is a full Portugal international and could strengthen the Gunners midfield brilliantly, but whether or not they need him is a different matter.
He’s a powerful player, unlike anything that Arsene Wenger currently has at his disposal but he is also notably agile. The Angola-born midfielder has been crucial to the Lisbon side this season after being loaned out to Cercle Brugge last season and is probably seen as the Arsenal bosses as a player to compliment Flamini in the holding role.
The Frenchman was drafted in on a free in the summer and has been outstanding during the season to date, playing 15 Premier League games and completing 92% of his passes, but he is now approaching 30 and his mobility has never been his strong point.
The two together, on paper, seem like a perfect match and for me I think it looks like a good move, but if you want to know a bit more about him then watch this clip.
