Manchester United travelled to Chelsea yesterday afternoon hoping to get their title challenge back on track. They failed, though, and there was one man key to that – Samuel Eto’o. The former Cameroon international scored his fourth, fifth and six league goal of the season in what proved to be a thrilling contest, although it was the west London side who came out the happiest.
Eto’o had previously been slated by a lot of Premier League spectators, myself included, but he turned it on in the big game – not for the first time, I may add, and kept Chelsea just two points behind Arsenal who top the table.
The 32-year-old had four shots at goal during his time on the pitch and scored with three of them, although his opener took a hefty deflection on its way past David De Gea.
It gave him the confidence to go on four dribbles, and although he’s at his best when inside the box, he actually caused a lot of problems for United yesterday.
He’s very much a poacher, but he was more than happy to chip in defensively when needed – he registered an interception, a clearance and a headed duel.
The African was back to his devastating best and the Blues fans will be quietly confident that there will be more to come for the rest of the season.
