Being a Manchester United fan there are plenty of things that I would like to say about this season, but I won’t. There are plenty of reasons that we are where we are in the Premier League table and I accept most of them, but what I can’t work out is what Tom Cleverley does, or what his role is in the team. I am not usually one to bemoan our own players, but I’m growing tired of our midfield and he sticks out to me.
He moves the ball quickly when we are looking to break forward and he’s often accurate in his passing, but when he releases the ball it’s often to whoever is closest to him or even behind him. He’s a liability in my eyes and is taking up space in the side, something which I would suggest David Moyes tries to fill with this player.
Toni Kroos is a magnificent player and he is the same age as Cleverley, which goes to show just how slowly the England international has progressed.
Kroos is a central player who can sit in the deep role or push forward, but his distribution and the way he shifts the ball is remarkable. He has completed 92% of his passes this season and has three assists to his name, but he also averages over two shots per game.
I would love to see him at Old Trafford and I beg United to dump Cleverley in order to make space for him.
