Liverpool have the chance to close in on third place Manchester City tonight as they travel to lowly Fulham, although Manuel Pellegrini’s side also take to the field at home to Sunderland. Liverpool will be buoyed by their 5-1 thrashing over Arsenal at the weekend and will have watched the Cottagers snatch a last minute goal against Manchester United on Sunday, so will be keen to get the better over them.
But how should they line up to ensure they get something out of the game?
Simon Mignolet will naturally be between the sticks, and I suggest Flanagan keeps his spot at right-back. In the centre-back area I would continue with Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure, as I don’t think the Cottagers will get the better of them, and Aly Cissokho’s form is picking up nicely, so he gets my left-back berth.
The midfield trio should be Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho, with the Brazilian pushing up into the higher areas and operating as the playmaker.
The front three pick themselves, with Raheem Sterling and Luis Surez taking up the wider areas and Daniel Sturridge leading the line.
If it’s good enough to demolish Arsenal, then I believe that Fulham are in for a long, long night – despite the fact they are at home.
