There has been much said about Liverpool’s possible title drought coming to an end this season. But Now Liverpool’s title dreams have been dealt an almost fatal blow with Manchester City achieving a 3-2 victory against the Reds’ neighbours Everton. This victory has put City firmly in the driver’s seat for their fourth league title.
Yet there is still a shimmer of hope for Liverpool who will need to be victorious over Crystal Palace and Newcastle in the final week. Liverpool’s last hope rests on the shoulders of Aston Villa and West Ham United who have the power to decide the Red’s fate. Both Villa and the Hammers have shown form in the final leg of the season due to a nervous relegation battle, but they will need to up it even more to achieve a victory over the title favourites.
Whilst the Liverpool team and fans remain optimistic, mathematics is not on the side of the reds. Even if they were to finish equal points with City goal difference would surely be on the side of the sky blues’ who currently are nine goals ahead.
Whilst it is an agonising matter of results for the title race, this campaign will surely be one for Liverpool to learn upon either way. As early losses and draws to teams lower in the table have cost them valuable points that would of seen them secure the title in what could of been three weeks ago.
For all English Premier League fans it is a title race full of entertainment and hopefully a few twists and turns. For now what Liverpool and their fans may of considered a year to dream may have just stumbled into a nightmare.
