It’s crucial that your midfield chips in with goals, and that’s something that Rakitic has a proven record of. This season he has 15 goals in all competitions, which includes 12 in La Liga. It’s something that no one else in the United midriff has really chipped in with this term.

2) Creativity

Rakitic also creates a huge amount of chances for those who play around him. He has sublime vision and can pick a pass from almost anywhere on the field, allowing him to thread passes through to the strikers whenever he pleases.

This season he has 12 assists from 46 games, and averages 2.3 key passes per games. Needless to say, United could do with that sort inventiveness in their midfield.

3) All-rounder

As well as the above, Rakitic contributes defensively. He has everything a central midfielder needs, and would gel the United side together brilliantly. Rakitic is a real all-rounder.
