Wenger Expects Defender To Leave – Why Gunners Will Miss This Attacking Full-Back

At 31 years of age, Bacary Sagna has perhaps one big pay day left in his footballing career. The Arsenal full-back is out of contract in the summer, and although those at the Emirates are supposedly desperate to keep hold of him, reports are saying that Arsene Wenger expects him to leave. For me, this would be a huge loss to the Gunners, and here’s why.

Sagna has everything you could ask for in a common day right-back. Not only does he boss his spot on the right of defence with tight, intelligent positioning and quick feet that allow him to shuttle into different areas, but he has made a name for himself as one of the top attacking defenders.

Sagna often bombs down the flank and links up with his attacking team-mates and this season has made 20 key passes this season.

His delivery is superb, and his decision making is incredibly impressive. To let that go because of contract breakdowns would be extremely frustrating for those who support the club.

The fans have a special relationship with Sagna – he has played for the north London club for seven seasons after all, and I think Wenger would have a tough time replacing him.
