With news coming in that Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal will be the next Manchester United manager, here are three players he should axe ahead of the new season.
1) Wayne Rooney
Hear me out. Van Gaal usually plays with a three man attack, and with Robin van Persie at the centre of that it leaves Rooney playing out of position. Van Persie has worked with, and is currently working with van Gaal in the national side and will be first choice, I would imagine, and Rooney doesn’t exactly like being second best.
I would look to get a good chunk of money for him and use his wages on Kevin Strootman.
2) Tom Cleverley
Following on from Strootman, I would look to offload Cleverley as he is showing no signs that he will ever be a serious player at Old Trafford. He’s slow, struggles to make things happen and is easily dispossessed and for those reasons I would look to sell him.
3) Anders Lindegaard
From the outside it looks like United have it sorted in goal. David De Gea is one of the best in the Premier League and they have a reputable number two in the Dane, but when he has been tested he hasn’t left me feeling very confident.
I would look to get a stronger second keeper in.
