Chelsea finished third in the Premier League this season but threatened to snatch the title for a long time. Here are the club’s five best players in terms of statistics from the league this season.
1) Eden Hazard
It’s no surprise that he tops the pile this season as he had a terrific campaign. In his 35 appearances he scored 14 goals and created 92 chances for his colleagues – more than Oscar and Frank Lampard combined.
He completed 132 of his 210 dribbles (63%) and had 54 shots at goal, and carried his form into European games.
He is the only attacking player in the list.
2) John Terry
The captain and his never say die attitude was at the heart of the Blues’ title push this season, as he led the Blues from the back. He played 32 games, averaged eight defensive actions per outing, won 93 headers, 18 tackles and made a whopping 228 clearances.
He also completed 90% of his passes.
3) Gary Cahill
Terry’s right hand man also impressed and won a spot in the World Cup because of it. He averaged nine defensive actions per game from his 30, making 216 clearances, 29 interceptions and 21 blocks.
He also won 101/147 headers, 27/44 tackles and created seven chances.
4) Branislav Ivanovic
Operating from right-back all season, the Serbia international once again proved his worth. He played 36 games, made 27 chances and scored three goals.
Defensively, he won 118 headers, completed 54% of his dribbles and won 54 tackles.
5) Petr Cech
In his 34 games he kept 16 clean sheets, was successful in 95% of his claims and made 1.53 saves per game, on average. This could very well be his last season at Stamford Bridge as Thibaut Courtois may be returning from Atletico Madrid.
