John Stones is one of many young Premier League footballers who have made his name this season and is attracting a lot of interest from it. He was also included on the standby list for the England squad ahead of the World Cup. Now he is apparently a target for Chelsea, who reportedly want to sign him before this summer’s tournament. But how good is he really?
He broke into the first team this season and established himself as a starter – this season he made 15 starts and an additional six substitute appearances.
He averaged 4.1 clearances per game, 1.2 tackles and 0.9 blocks. He looks like a focused professional rather than a young, inexperienced defender and he has a huge future ahead of him.
It may be a result of Roberto Martinez’s fluid system that he has thrived, but his talent has shone through and has been one of Everton’s main highlights of a very successful season.
Chelsea could do a lot worse, in my opinion.
