Ashley Cole has today announced that his time at Chelsea has probably come to an end. The England left-back has struggled to tie down his place this season as Jose Mourinho has continued to use Cesar Azpilicueta. Here is why Cole must chose Liverpool, who separate reports suggest are interested in his services.
1) First choice
With Jose Enrique suffering from a long term injury and Aly Cissokho not living up to expectations, it has been left up to Jon Flanagan to fill the left-back berth. And although he has done a fine job, he is naturally a right-back and Cole is a level above.
Cole would probably be guaranteed a place in the team.
2) Brendan Rodgers
Rodgers has proved his worth as a Premier League manager and looks to be building something special at Anfield. He likes to bed youth into the side but must also mix that with experienced heads, and they don’t come much more experienced than Cole.
3) Champions League
Liverpool finished second this season and therefore will be back in the Champions League next time out, which is something that Cole will probably be looking for at his next club. If he wants to stay in the Premier League, then it’s between the Reds, Arsenal or Manchester City.
His history with Arsenal rules them out, in my opinion, and City have Gael Clichy at left-back.
