Louis van Gaal has finally been appointed as Manchester United’s next manager. Here are four players who should follow the Netherlands manager into Old Trafford.
1) Luke Shaw – Southampton
With Patrice Evra potentially leaving the club on a free, United need a top left-back to come in and fill the gap. Who better than English sensation Luka Shaw, who is surely the future of the England left-back berth.
He is strong, quick and has a superb delivery, so I say he fits the bill perfectly. Oh, and he’s only 18.
2) Eliaquim Mangala – Porto
With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic departing, United need to rebuild their backline. I think Mangala should be the first man through the door, as he fits everything that van Gaal could want in a centre-back.
He’s powerful-yet-agile, provides a physical presence but is deceivably quick, and he has almost 200 club appearances despite being just 23.
3) Cesc Fabregas – Barcelona
We know what the Spaniard is about because of his time at Arsenal and Barcelona, and could very well be the answer to United’s midfield problem. He is a player who makes things happen and plays on the front foot, creating opportunities and scoring goals himself.
Although he would probably cost quite a bit, there is due to be some change at Camp Nou this summer and United could snatch themselves a star.
4) Ilkay Gundogan – Borussia Dortmund
To work alongside Fabregas, I would move for Borussia Dormund midfielder Gundogan. He is a player that provides energy, ups the tempo and can dictate the game from wherever he is playing in the middle.
He has suffered from a lengthy injury lately, but that could work in United’s favour.
