Having failed to grab three points against Italy in their first Group D match of Brazil 2014, England now face a “do or die” match against Uruguay in hope of trying to salvage their World Cup campaign.
A Mario Balotelli header snatched victory for Italy last weekend after a valiant performance from Hodgson’s side, where players such as Raheem Sterling showed they could adapt to the international stage. With two games left in Group D, a win against Uruguay would put England a step closer to the last 16 but with the likes of Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani lining up for Uruguay going to require Hodgson’s star players to perform.
