After all the hope, the expectations and the excitement, England look to have fallen at the final hurdle at the Brazil World Cup. The Three Lions lost to Italy and then Uruguay to leave them bottom of the group going into the final clash against Costa Rica.
1) Jordan Henderson
Henderson has struggled to operate to his best in the two games because of Roy Hodgson’s preference to play just two central midfielders. He closes the gaps well and works tirelessly for his team-mates, but he is used to playing in a trio, so I would take him out and stick Frank Lampard in.
2) Leighton Baines
Baines has had two poor games now and with England’s chance to qualify looking slim, I would throw Luke Shaw in to give him a bit of experience on the big stage. He is strong, can beat opponents with pace and in all honestly I don’t think he could do much worse than the Everton full-back.
3) Joe Hart
The over-hyped Manchester City goalkeeper has been appalling. He can shout and scream at ball boys all he likes but he has not stepped up. No player should be un-droppable and I think that Hodgson should go for one of the other keepers available to him.
