Mourinho Considers Signing Defender For The Second Time – Why Varane Could Swap Madrid For London

Plying his trade with Real Madrid at the age of 21, Raphael Varane is set for a bright future.  According to the Daily Mail, however, there may be some problems with the French defender’s present.

The newspaper have reported that Varane’s representatives are due for talks with the reigning European champions, as they attempt to get them to increase the player’s wages to a similar level to the rest of Los Blancos squad.  The centre-back, though, has three years remaining on his contract, which could mean that Madrid are under no pressure to bow to their demands.

As long as the situation remains unresolved, talk of Varane being unhappy may persist.  The normal outcome of these types of disagreements ends in the player either getting a new deal or being sold, and there are plenty of clubs who would be more than happy to sign the France international.  One such side is Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, with the Portuguese manager having brought Varane to Madrid during his time in charge at the Bernabeu.

It is believed that any transfer would cost around £25 million, but the Blues are not exactly short of cash.  If they are willing to offer him wages that his current club are not, a move to Stamford Bridge well be on the cards.
