There were earlier speculations on whether the deal would happen after French Champions Paris St Germain were almost close to sign the player but the deal reportedly fell through thanks to Financial Fair play regulations.

Di Maria was then left out of the UEFA Super Cup and didn’t feature for the Galacticos with rumours circulting that a move to the Premier League was imminent.

Di Maria expressed his delight after signing the deal saying, “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester United. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Spain and there were a lot of clubs interested in me, but United is the only club that I would have left Real Madrid for.”
