Arsenal have confirmed that French International right back Mathieu Debuchy is out for three months after under going a surgery on his left ankle. Debuchy, fell awkwardly while playing against Manchester City in a 2-2 draw last weekend and after initial scans, it was revealed that he has to undergo a surgery to recover completely.

“He has had surgery and will be out for three months,” Wenger told Arsenal.com. “A reasonable delay is three months.
“It all went well, but it can be a week or two earlier or a week or two later, but it will be around three months.

“It is a blow of course, how big it will be we will only know afterwards because it will be down to how well we replace him. We bought [Calum] Chambers for that.”

Arsenal’s failure to sign proper defensive reinforcements have already started to create problems. With Debuchy out for an extended period, 19-year old Chambers has to take up the responsibility of playing at right back and covering for centre back positions if needed as Koscielny and Mertesacker are the only recognized defenders at the moment.

And to make matter worse for the Arsenal fans, left back Nacho Monreal is out till mid-October further stretching their wafer thin squad. The Spaniard was another casualty during the City game as he suffered a back injury. After initial reports that he would be back in action this weekend, Wenger has now confirmed that he will be out until mid-October. This means that Monreal will not be available to play crucial games against Chelsea and Tottenham leaving only the injury prone Kieran Gibbs to start.

So Wenger has exactly four fit senior defenders to play in almost 7 games next month and one more injury or suspension to a player leaves the door open for youngsters to have a run in.
