“It’s too much I think” Manchester United Manger Reveals He Is Still Trying To Find The Balance In The Team

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has admitted that he has tried too many formations this season but has done so to find the right balance in the team. The Dutchman went with a 4-1-4-1 formation in their last game against Crystal Palace and won the game by a solitary goal.

Van Gaal has tried as many as three different formations in the last four games as is still in search of the right balance of attack and defence in the team. When asked about the formation changes, he replied, “It’s too much [formation changes] I think, I agree. But I’m looking for the balance and when you see the last four matches, we have had more balance because we haven’t conceded many goals.”

“Nevertheless, we don’t score so much. With the other system, we scored a lot of goals.”

The former Netherlands manager also revealed that the system employed in the last few weeks demands Angel Di Maria to pass the ball, which he hasn’t. Di Maria’s form in the last few games has been patchy as he has not had the same impact that he had at the time of joining. Van Gaal said,  “He has played today in a very small space and he is a dribbler but sometimes you cannot dribble.

“You have to make it a pass game, and Di Maria is not a player who wants to give a pass every time he gets the ball.

“But in this case we needed that and not dribbles. Therefore he lost the ball a lot of times and that was not good for the balance of the team.

United next play against Arsenal at the Emirates in what will be a key game for them as they have been terrible away from home. Van Gaal’s side have picked up just three points from their five away games and are yet to win a single game. It’ll be intriguing to see what formation he choses against Arsene Wenger’s side as Arsenal haven’t been good defensively this season. A more attacking approach by Van Gaal will definitely make things more interesting on the 22nd of November when the two teams face off.
