Arsenal And Liverpool On High Alert As Defender Wants To Leave – January Move May Be?

Barcelona right back Martin Montoya’s situation is getting pretty dire as he wants to move away from the club to get regular game time. Montoya has made just one appearance for Barcelona this season and wants to move on a permanent basis despite signing a new contract with the club in March this year that will keep him there till 2018.

The Spaniard has failed to impress new manager Luis Enrique and is open to a move to the Premier League with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton being linked. Montoya’s agent Juan de Dios Carrasco revealed, “It’s very difficult but we are speaking to the club about finding a solution in the winter market.

“Luis Enrique has already told him he is behind Dani Alves and Douglas, but it now seems he is also behind Adriano.

“My advice to him is to ask for a transfer, not to go out on loan.”

The 23-year old had decent game time under former manager Tata Martino which earned him a new contract, but this season, he has stagnated at the club. Arsenal and Liverpool have had problems in the right back position which could mean that they’ll want to buy someone in the January transfer window. Liverpool are yet to offer Glen Johnson a new contract, so with his departure (free transfer) imminent in the summer, they could be eyeing Montoya as a long term replacement.

Montoya is set to submit a transfer request which could start a bidding war as Everton too are being linked with him. There are fears that they could lose their current right-back Seamus Coleman as Chelsea are being linked with a possible move. With that in mind, Roberto Martinez will need a replacement and could go after Montoya with the funds received from the Coleman sale if it does happen.
