Premier League giants Manchester Untied suffered a shocking 1-0 loss to Southampton at home on Sunday. It was the first win for the visitors at Old Trafford after 17 long years and Louis van Gaal’s side was quite disappointing in the Southampton half and lacked quality going ahead. The loss exposed plenty of weaknesses within the United side, especially with regards to the attacking play and finishing. One man who became a mere spectator to this disappointing performance was Columbian star striker Radamel Falcao. The 28 year old who is currently at United on loan from AS Monaco, had finally started to find his feet at the Premier League club, yet, was benched in the fixture. Now the Dutch manager has denied that the unhappy striker stormed out yesterday after the match.
The Colombian superstar striker did not make an appearance for Manchester United in their game against “The Saints”. After the game, reports suggest that Falcao was not seen in the Director’s box with his team-mates, yet Van Gaal claimed it was not true and said, “Yes, he was here.” The Dutch manager further said this about United’s performance, “It is a bad result. We have to be better. We were the dominating team but you have to create more chances when you are the dominating team. We didn’t choose the right solutions in the third and fourth phase.”
United who were at third place, at the start of the game, fell to fourth, two points behind Southampton. Manager Van Gaal will need to change things around, if he wishes to retain the Champions League spot as competition this year is quite stiff for that final spot. One way of going about it could be adding reinforcements in the January transfer window as the manager has already suggested previously. What happens next needs to be seen, as only time will tell.
