Manchester United have been trying to make a move to get back one of their former superstars to Old Trafford. Juventus sensation Paul Pagba has been linked with a reunion with the Red Devils, for some time now. However, recent reports now suggest that Italian World Cup winning play maker Andrea Pirlo has told United to forget about ever re-signing his Juventus teammate.
The 35 year old Pirlo, believes that United are at fault for overlooking Pogba during his time at the club. Sir Alex Ferguson, who was in charge at that time did not grant him a single start, before the midfielder left for the Bianconeri in 2012, on a free transfer. United have been scouting the 21-year-old, who has also been linked with Real Madrid, during his time in Turin, where the Frenchman has spent three seasons. The Italian international Pirlo feels United will now pay the price for not retaining him after just two seasons in England. In an interview, Pirlo told French television show Telefoot,
“For whatever reasons they chose not to give him a chance and that is a mistake they will have to live with now.I can’t see that he will ever return to Manchester United.”
Pogba had made a mere seven substitute appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side back then, but has gone on to become a key part of the Italian outfit and the French national side, winning back-to-back Serie A titles and the award for the best young player in the 2014 World Cup. Pirlo further added,
“When he first joined us in training at Juventus we knew there was something about him and in just two years he has become one of the best players in the world. Of course he is going to have options, he knows that. You can’t play at the level he is and not attract attention but he also knows that at Juventus he is already at one of the biggest clubs in Europe. I have spoken with him, and told him if he carries on working hard and makes the right decisions there is no limit to what he can achieve.”
Pogba was also on the 23-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or last year and his agent has dismissed the possibility of a winter exit, despite various rumours going around. Massimiliano Allegri, the Juventus boss has already hinted that Pogba will become one of the greatest players on the planet following his fine recent form and has suggested that the midfielder might leave in the summer.
