Arsenal, who beat Championship leaders Middlesbrough on Sunday have now advanced to the quarter final stage in the FA Cup, where they face Premier League rivals Manchester United. One man who has seen his position come under a lot of scrutiny this season has been the German defender Per Mertesacker. The German centre half has become, bit of a media scapegoat, during Arsenal’s mini crisis back at the start of the season.

Wenger has now added more competition for places by bringing in Gabriel Paulista in the January window, who looks set challenge for a place at the heart of the Arsenal defence. With that on mind and a lot of pressure on the German, Mertesacker drew some positive attention on himself at training, by scoring an awesome backheel during the end of session game.
