Liverpool Summer Transfer Plans: Who Stays And Who Leaves?

What a difference a few months makes to a season for a club, down in the bellows of the league, but now with the New Year, just a few places away from the promised land of great European nights. Liverpool have had what can best be described as an amazingly Topsy turvy season, playing rather poorly at the start of the season and then all of a sudden recovering from the loss of Daniel Sturridge for a huge chunk of the season and playing some attractive football with the results to show as well.

Liverpool

Liverpool

They are in the race for a top 4 finish, are unbeaten in their last 9 league outings and are in the running for both the FA cup and Europa League titles. Steven Gerrard might be on his way out of the club after a long and productive career and Liverpool need to plan well in advance this time around rather than the debacle of the Luis Suarez transfer, with the transfer window a few months away we try to find out just who stays and who goes at Liverpool next season.

Transfer out (Loaned players not considered for this list)

Glen Johnson

Glen Johnson has been on the nerves of most Liverpool fans for quite a few seasons, there is no doubting his ability, his ability to forget how to defend. It is a surprise that Liverpool are in talks of extending his contract, but in all honesty, they need to replace Johnson and they already have youngsters like Jon Flannagan and Andre Wisdom chomping at the bits to replace the English defender.

Fabio Borini

Sadly, the last day drama by Borini has not paid off, Borini decided to stay and fight for his place at Liverpool, but he has not been able to take advantage of the few chances he has been given and it is all but a surety that Borini is to be replaced at the end of the season.

Brad Jones

Liverpool need to upgrade on their goalkeepers and while Simon Mignolet has found his form at the club, they still need to have a good second choice goalkeeper and while Jones is decent, he is not getting any younger and it could be the time to call time for the Australian at Liverpool.

Jose Enrique

The Spaniard has not played as many games as he would have liked and with Liverpool playing a new 3-4-3 formation, his options to break into the squad are limited. Jose might not be the first choice at left back anymore thanks to Alberto Moreno and he should be shipped out from the club.

Rickie Lambert

Unfortunately for the lifelong Liverpool fans, his dream has not been realized. Lambert might have scored a couple of times, but he has rarely been used by Brendan Rodgers and he almost did move to Aston Villa in the January transfer window, which could happen in the next window.

Transfer in

Neto

Liverpool need to get a good second choice goalkeeper or at least someone who can give Simon Mignolet a run for the money and Neto has been linked with a move to Liverpool, the 25 year old goalkeeper from Fiorentina might not be a tried and tested player in the Premier League but he would certainly do well to provide competition to the Belgian.

Andre-Pierre Gicnac or Alexandre Lacazette

There is a toss-up between Gicnac and Lacazette and if Liverpool get any one of them it would make it a great striker line-up for the Reds. Both the players have been brilliant at their respective clubs but Lacazette might be the better and costlier option, he has scored more goals and is just 23 years old fitting perfectly into the Reds policy of buying young players.

Miralem Pjanic

The Roman midfielder would be the ideal replacement for Steven Gerrard, Pjanic is great on the ball and can control the play well, the 24 year old would cost a lot for Liverpool but to replace a player of Gerrard’s ability, but that is what you would have to do, break the bank to get a player of good quality in.

Sports, music, comics, humor, television, movies and madness. The perfect combination.
