The British newspaper further added ‘The Croatian only moved to the Camp Nou in the summer but initially struggled to win a place in Luis Enrique’s starting eleven despite being a key player for Sevilla last season. And reports in Spain suggest both the Gunners and United made approaches in the lead up to the January transfer window about bringing the player to the Premier League.’

Manchester United, who are keen on adding more quality to their midfield are keeping an eye on Rakitic, as he is a highly talented player, but a move any time soon, is unlikely. Barcelona currently has a transfer ban and even if the Croatian wanted a move away, the Spanish giants wouldn’t agree, because there would be no option of replacing him. Rakitic on the other hand, did not deny the possibility of a move to Old Trafford during the January transfer window, as it was not mentioned which club had made the approach. Sunday’s reports in Spain about an interest from two Premier League clubs clearly stated that it was Arsenal and Manchester City interested, with no mention of Manchester United. This has come as a shock to many, as United were rumoured to be quite strongly linked to the midfield superstar, in the past few months.
