Arsenal have been trying to resolve a midfield crisis within their side, due to a large number of injuries since the start of this season. Wenger has been shuffling his players around and has managed to do a decent job, with the FA Cup champions, looking to retain their title. In addition, the French manager had expected to add more quality to his side with the January window still open and a number of players on his wish list. One such superstar who was being looked upon as a potential target for the Gunners was Brazilian U-21 international Lucas Silva.
The North London side wanted the 21 year old Silva with the aim of improving their bench strength for the upcoming seasons. Recent reports have confirmed that Lucas Silva has been officially unveiled at Real Madrid following his £11.5m transfer as previously confirmed by Cruzeiro vice-president Marcio Rodrigues.
TalkSPORT had previously reported last month that Arsenal and Real Madrid were quite keen on acquiring the youngster’s services, yet, Cruzerio had dismissed all such reports of anything happening in the summer. However, since December, the Champions League holders have stepped up in the race and now a deal have been completed.
Real have agreed of a fee of £11.5m, for the Brazilian and Rodrigues admitted they were in no position to stop the move. In an interview with ESPN Brazil, when asked about the move, he said, “There was nothing else we could do. There comes a time when the player wants to leave because their agent is putting on pressure with the high salaries they’re paid [in] Europe.”
This would be a huge accomplishment for Real, with the signing of a second talented youngster in such a short span of time, after the recent acquisition of Norway international Martin Odegaard.
