Injured Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta is all set to stay at the Emirates Stadium after the end of the season as a fresh one year deal is awaiting him in London. According to the reports from Dailystar, Arteta’s representatives Inaki Ibanez has confirmed that a new deal has been finalised which will see the Spanish midfielder Arteta staying at the Emirates.
Ibanez said that Arteta is no longer a free agent next June because he has a new one extra year contract with Arsenal. The current Arsenal skipper took over the reign from defender Thomas Vermaelen moved out of Arsenal to Barcelona at the beginning of the season.
He has made only seven appearances this season and at present, he is out with an ankle injury since November. The club confirmed that Arteta underwent a successful ankle surgery and is expected to be out for another three months.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger signed the Spaniard form Everton for £10 million in the dying hours of the 2011 summer transfer window. His contract with the Gunners was about to run out at the end of the season. Arteta along with Mathieu Flamini has taken up the holding midfield role, which they have failed to impress when facing the big guns, but have been decent enough otherwise.
Wenger took his time before giving Coquelin a proper chance in the first team and sent him on loan to Lorient, SC Frieburg and Charlton Athletic since he was promoted to the senior squad. Coquelin was called back from his loan stint at Charlton because of Arsenal’s inability to field a solid central midfielder in the playing XI as the Frenchman used this oppurtuinity with both his hands. His contract was initially scheduled to run out at the end of the season but he was rewarded a new three-year deal for his impressive performances.
