Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are preparing a bid for PSG striker Edinson Cavani, at the end of the current campaign. Reports in Italy are now claiming that the club could try to complete a deal at a cut-price of £22m for the Uruguay striker. The 28 year striker is on the verge of a Ligue 1 exit with the club looking to cash in on him to meet UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations. The French champions are quite keen on holding on to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ezequiel Lavezzi, which means that Cavani could be sacrificed.
According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport a move could be completed in July, with Premier League giants Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all looking to finalize a move. Last week Atletico coach Oscar Ortega had hinted an interest in the striker and told Mundo Deportivo,
“An interest in Cavani? Yes, there is.”
“As long as there’s a chance, we will see what he can offer us.”
“He is a great striker and he is in great shape.”
“I think his style of play would be ideal for Atletico because he is a fast player who likes to counter-attack and to play in space.”
