Last night saw the remaining British teams in the Europa League knocked out leaving Britain blushing with embarrassment as there were no representatives left to fly the flag for Britain.
English teams Liverpool and Manchester City could not turn over their away legged defeats. Liverpool will rue the penalty they gave away in the first leg against Braga as this turned out to be the only goal in the two legs resulting in a 0-0 at Anfield and 1-0 loss on aggregate overall.
Manchester City will rue more the performance of one particular individual as hothead Mario Balotelli was sent off for a needless foot to the chest making it more of an uphill task for his team mates who were already 2-0 down against Dynamo Kiev from the first leg, the sending off weirdly spurred the blues on as Alexsander Kolarov scored moments later sending the Eastlands crowd in raptures. Unfortunately although a dominating and fighting performance by the 10 men the match only ended in a 1-0 win leaving city fans seething at their own player’s mistake with a combination of a diabolical performance from the referee and one of the biggest play acting teams I have ever witnessed.
Not much hope in Scotland either as Rangers suffered a 1-0 defeat at Ibrox to PSV Eindhoven, leaving Britain, the boys that invented football, being taught a footballing lesson, number of British teams progressing to the quarters……0.
