The question still remains on why Jose Enrique decided to go with the scary homeless man/serial killer look this season but one thing is certain; Brendan Rodgers has got the Spanish left back come roaming midfielder playing superbly.
Liverpool’s recent good run of form has been largely down to Luis Suarez and his impressive goal scoring record but Enrique’s play has been outstanding as he has flourished in Rodger’s elaborate formations. A strong, quick and powerful left back, Enrique has been used in a number of different roles by Rodgers this season and it is a credit to the Spainard’s versatility that he has been able to adapt and still put in some fantastic performances.
Things haven’t been easy for Liverpool this season but it appears that Rodgers has just about managed to weather the storm that was looking rather gloomy only a few weeks ago. His perseverance is to be admired and his faith in the younger players has paid off somewhat as they have hoisted themselves to near mid-table.
A trip to London beckons this weekend as Rodger’s men take on a surprisingly good West Ham team and the man who brought Enrique to this country during his time at Newcastle, Sam Allardyce, will want to ensure that he does not inflict a defeat on the Hammers.
West Ham’s confidence is sky high following a resounding victory over Chelsea and Allardyce has got the team playing at a very high level. Liverpool are flying, too, and Jose Enrique will be keen to show off his ridiculous new look and inflict some damage to West Ham in whatver role it is Rodgers decides to play him in this weekend. I wouldn’t be surprised if he lined up alongside Suarez up front.
