The Premier League, or the English game in general, is often dismissed as a fast paced, rough and ready game with little technical ability. However, with all the foreign talent being shipped into the division over the last decade or so, the English topflight has some incredibly technical-able outlets. Here are the top 5 in terms of the most passes from those who have played more than 3 games.
1) Yaya Toure – Manchester City
The Ivorian is the most complete central midfield player than I think I have ever seen in my life time. He has the power, the awareness and the creativity to be considered amongst the best in the world at what he does, and that’s some compliment. The former Barcelona man has a pass accuracy of 90% so far this season, with four key passes from his 390 in total.
2) Aaron Ramsey – Arsenal
Whatever the Welshman has been eating this season he needs to share it out with his team-mates. Ramsey has been incredible so far, scoring seven goals in eight games so far in all competitions, and his passing has been impressive also. He has played 332 successful passes from his 375 attempted (89%) with 3 key passes and an assist.
3) Michael Carrick – Manchester United
It’s no surprise the England midfielder is in the mix after completing the most forward passes in Europe last season. So far this term Carrick has made 301 successful passes from his 357 attempted (84%).
4) Kyle Walker – Tottenham
Perhaps more surpringly, Spurs right-back Walker has made a total of 290 successful passes, 13 of which have been key passes. The defender is the only non central midfielder in our list.
5) Jonjo Shelvey – Swansea
The former Liverpool man has had a fine season so far with the Welsh outfit and has kept things ticking in the middle of the Swans midfield. Shelvey has completed 283 passes while making four key passes and claiming an assist.
