Tottenham have had a mixed start to the new Premier League season but have every right to be excited for the rest of it. Here are three things that Spurs have taught us this term so far.
1) There is life after Bale
Last season the White Hart Lane outfit were all about Gareth Bale to some. The Wales international made 75 key passes and scored 21 goals in the Premier League and was the driving force behind their attempt at a fourth place finish.
Since his move to Real Madrid, however, Spurs are just a point outside the top four and have conceded 10 less goals than at this point last season.
2) AVB’s high line works
With the correct personnel we are now seeing that the Portuguese boss’ plans of a high line are successful. As mentioned, Spurs have only conceded six goals this season in the league – three of which came in a loss to West Ham – and they are looking as solid as ever at the back.
Lloris sitting on the edge of his box helps, too, acting as a sweeper.
3) Townsend is a special talent
The 22-year-old returned to North London knowing that if he worked hard and impressed the manager that the left wing spot was now open, and he’s done just that. So far this season he has played 10 league games, made 19 key passes and scored once, as well as making his first England appearance.
