He’s got the speed, he’s got the composure and he’s got time on his side – it’s no wonder, then, that Arsenal are supposedly interested in Standard Liege forward Michy Batshuayi. The 20-year-old is the focus of numerous clubs, according to the club’s President, Roland Duchatelet, but who is he and what could he offer to the Gunners?
With 11 Belgium U21 caps to his name, Batshuayi is slowly progressing into one of the most impressive young strikers on the European stage.
This season he has taken his goalscoring up a notch and has helped himself to 14 goals in his 27 outings, two more than his overall tally of goals from last season.
He’s not the strongest player, nor is he a standout individual when it comes to ball retention, but his versatility across the front line and the way he runs with the ball is brilliant to watch.
He has a real hunger to go at opposing defenders and it’s that willingness that makes him so effective going forward.
Liege have been woeful in the Europa League this season but the youngster has sparkled amongst them, completing 10 dribbles and showing that he’s a team player by making four tackles.
Arsenal do need back up for Olivier Giroud, in my opinion, but if I was Arsene Wenger I would be ensuring that I a drafted in an established goal-getter before I did anything else.
