Jose Mourinho’s has kept Stamford Bridge as a fortress this season but Chelsea have struggled away from their west London home. They’ve lost to Everton, Newcastle and Stoke in the league and recently dropped out of the cup as a result of a 2-1 loss to Sunderland, but they travel to Arsenal this evening looking to change their poor away form. If I was Jose Mourinho, here is what I would do.
Firstly I would drop Frank Lampard. The Chelsea legend has looked stiff over the last few weeks playing from a deeper position and I think it’s time to play John Obi Mikel and Ramires together in the middle.
Then, I would stick Germany international Andre Schurrle up front as he has the speed to damage Per Mertesacker and whoever comes in at centre-back. He is also a natural in front of goal – he has scored three times this season as well as a host of goals for his country.
Lastly, I would exploit the full-back areas. Carl Jenkinson can be beaten easily and is often found out of position, and when Kieran Gibbs pushes up then there is usually a chance to find the gaps.
To summarise, if I was Mourinho then I would drop Frank Lampard, Stick Schurrle up front and exploit the flanks.
