Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has told the Daily Mail that Fernando Torres is enjoying his footnall again at Stamford Bridge and has thrown his support behind the Spaniard.
The Chelsea striker has struggled in front of goal this season, scoring just four league goals in 16 games, but the he is now enjoying himself again, apparently. But is that enough for him to stop Chelsea splashing out on another forward this month?
Torres, who has received heavy criticism since moving from Liverpool to Chelsea in 2011, has struggled to return to his form in his prime for the Reds, yet the Spaniard has managed to net a total of eight across all competitions this year and has begun a rise back to form and a value part of Chelsea’s team. At the present time Torres is the leading scorer, from the strikers, for Chelsea above his counter-part Samuel Eto’o.
With Demba Ba’s future at the club looking bleak and Romelu Lukaku still on loan to Everton, Mourinho’s striking options are becoming awfully thin.
In my opinion, a move away from England for Torres may be what is needed, although he is starting to prove valuable for Chelsea in a tight league campaign.
There has always been speculation of a possible return home return for the Spanish forward, from the fans at least, yet the football he is beginning to produce at Chelsea is that of his previous self.
For now, the ‘Special One’ looks reluctant to bring another striking option to the Bridge and it looks like he may play with the cards he was dealt, but everyone knows that Mourinho usually has an ace or two up his sleeve.
All eyes will be on the Portuguese coach and his Chelsea team for the rest of the January transfer window, as the Blues continue their fight for the title.
