According to the Telegraph, Wayne Rooney is being lined up for a summer bid from La Liga giants Real Madrid. Here are three reasons that I think the striker should take up the offer, should it happen.
1) service
Instead of having Tom Cleverley sitting behind him, Rooney could have the chance of having the likes of Luka Modric and Xabi Alonso. Rather than having Antonio Valencia and Adnan Januzaj delivering balls into him, Rooney could have Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale feeding him with passes.
Rooney could shine with better players around him, as we saw a few years back at Old Trafford.
2) trophies
Surely there is more of a chance to win trophies at Real Madrid right now. While Manchester United’s chances of silverware this season look slim, Madrid now have a squad capable of winning every tournament they enter.
Rooney would only strengthen that chance, too, so for me that’s a solid reason for him to make the jump.
3) fresh start
Rooney is a player that a lot of people despise, both for on and off field antics, but a move to Spain could provide him with a fresh outlook. With new surroundings, new team-mates and a new culture could see Rooney return to the player he used to be.
He’d have to pack some sun cream though.
