Heading into the business end to the season, Arsenal are sat at the top of the Premier League and looking good for some silverware this term. They could drop to second tonight as Manchester City and Chelsea go toe-to-toe tonight, but for now the Gunners are enjoying life at the top. However, in my opinion they don’t hold the fire power that the other challengers do, and will need to find a way of keeping Olivier Giroud fresh.
The Frenchman has now played 32 games for the Gunners this season and is looking sluggish at times. It’s only natural though, and no blame can be put on him because of it, and if anyone should get the blame then I feel it is Arsene Wenger.
However, they are the the pickle now, and they will need a way to sort that. For me, the answer could very well be under their noses, with Lukas Podolski lurking in the shadows.
The Germany international is by no means a natural striker, but he has the pace, the composure and the experience to back up the fact he can be deployed up top. The 28-year-old has regularly up front for his previously clubs and the Germany national side, and has scored a hatful of goals doing so.
He scored 16 in 42 for Arsenal last season and has five in 10 this, while his national record currently sits on 46 senior goals in 111 games for his country.
He may not be everyone’s cup of tea as a striker, but I for one believe that he has the ability to help Giroud share the goals and keep him fresh for the rest of the season.
