Chelsea beat Paris Saint Germain last night to progress to the Champions League semi-final despite the Blues being 3-1 down from the first leg. Goals from Andre Schurrle and Demba Ba saw them overturn the deficit – here are three players who made the difference.
1) Andre Schurrle
When Eden Hazard started limping early in the game there were plenty of winces from the Chelsea fans. However, Andre Schurrle was brought on and he instantly made an impression. The Germany international seemed up for it and rallied his team-mates, and he definitely deserved his goal. He also hit the woodwork with a powerful strike.
2) Petr Cech
Cech made a number of superb saves and without him between the sticks then I don’t think Chelsea would have been able to win the game. He towered above the PSG attack and was useful with his distribution – his pass success was the same as David Luiz’s.
3) David Luiz
The Brazilian was magnificent last night. He had 75 touches of the ball and moved it about the pitch well, but he also made five tackles and tidied up continuously throughout the tie. His positioning was strong and he held his own in the air, but the aggression in his game benefitted his side massively.
