Liverpool are reported to be sending scouts to Portugal tonight to once again monitor up and coming Benfica star, Lazar Markovic.
Benfica are fighting for a spot in the Europa League semi finals against AZ Alkmaar, who have a 1-0 first leg lead, with Markovic expected to start.
The 20-year-old has impressed a host of top clubs in Europe, including Chelsea and Manchester United but their interest in the player may have fallen by the way side as they look to bolster their squad in other areas, ready for next season.
Markovic has scored seven times this season for club and country and has helped Benfica lead the Primeira Liga by seven points.
He was also part of a Benfica side that knocked out Tottenham Hotspur in the last 16 of the Europa League recently. It was that performance over two legs that had Liverpool wanting to scout the player again before making a decision whether or not to make a bid in the summer.
Said to be valued at £10 million, I do think that Liverpool are making a good move if they can offload another squad player in a swap deal to bring the cost down. Having Markovic in the squad with European and international experience would be a bargain and do no harm to Liverpool’s chances of success next season too.
Check the player out and have your say.
