Arsenal are in desperate need of a new striker this summer, and one who can come in and score 20-odd goals to hand them the Premier League trophy. Olivier Giroud scored his 20th goal of the season last night in the Gunners’ 3-1 win over West Ham, but he has looked tired for large parts of the season. Reports from the Express are suggesting that the north London side have now turned their attention to Mario Mandzukic, after missing out of Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa.
For me Mandzukic would be the perfect addition. Every attribute that Arsene Wenger has scribbled in his notepad can be ticked off by the Croatia international, and I think he could be the missing link at the Emirates.
He is a similar build to Giroud and operates in a similar way. Neither are particularly sharp, neither can run in behind a defence and both can be selfish at times.
But both players are strong in the air, both are very strong, and can link up well with their midfields.
Mandzukic has also scored 20 goals this season. He has 17 in his 28 Bundesliga games and has three in the Champions League.
If Wenger can secure a deal for him then I am sure he would be a huge success in north London.
