Louis van Gaal is a manager who is used to success. He won 11 major trophies while in charge of Ajax, four at Barcelona and three at Bayern Munich. He also won the Dutch topflight with AZ in 2009. The Holland manager is a winner, and it looks as though he will be taking over at Manchester United any time soon.
Naturally, he has worked with some of the best players in the game. So, if he pushes the United board for a player, you would expect them to make an effort, wouldn’t you?
Well, apparently he is after Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund. If he does arrive at Old Trafford over the summer, where would he fit in?
The Germany international is naturally a left winger, though he can play on the right and also in a more central slot. In a similar situation to that of Juan Mata’s – who is a central player but can play in the wide areas – his flexibility has somewhat been a hindrance.
This season, though, Reus has been down the left, so you would have to say he would be deployed there. Van Gaal likes his team to play a 4-3-3 formation, so with Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Tom Cleverley playing in the middle – from the current choices – I imagine Reus would take up the left attacking role.
Mata would be on the right, with either Wayne Rooney or Robin van Persie in the middle, though a lot of flexibility will be crucial.
Where would you play him, United fans?
