Arsenal aren’t a club for splashing the cash, usually, but that didn’t stop them breaking their transfer record to land Mesut Ozil last year. They were supposedly ready to spend a large chunk of money of Schalke playmaker Julian Draxler, but the young Germany international has ruled out a move to the Emirates, which should be considered as a massive blow to the Gunners. Here’s why.
Not Only can he play on the left of midfield, but he is also comfortable on the right and can function in a central role behind the centre-forward.
Draxler is one of the most exciting attackers in the German topflight and has had another superb season. He has 26 Bundesliga appearances to his name and claimed six assists, as well as averaging 2.3 key passes per game.
With Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil already in the team, Arsenal could do with another dynamic forward to run in behind opposition defences. Draxler would have provided that.
He can take players on, deliver balls into the box and thread neat balls in to strikers, and Olivier Giroud needs that.
For me it is a massive blow for the Gunners, and if I was a fan of the club I would be annoyed.
