Liverpool are reportedly interested in Paris Saint-Germain winger Ezequiel Lavezzi as the Argentinian is unsettled in the French Capital.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have revealed that the 29-year old has apparently turned down a contract extension which has attracted interest from Inter Milan and Liverpool. However, the fleet-footed attacker is keen on the idea of playing in the Premier League after already having played in the Serie A with Napoli a few years ago. Lavezzi had a five year spell with Napoli after brief stay with Genoa.
He isn’t a first choice in the playing XI as manager Laurent Blanc has preferred the attacking trio of Edinson Cavani, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Lucas Moura. Lavezzi has made 18 appearances for PSG this season in all competitions, but has completed just two of those games which has made him somewhat unsettled at the club.
Although Inter are interested in acquiring Lavezzi, a potential deal could be scuppered if Lukas Podolski makes the switch there first as Arsenal are willing to ship the German on loan. With that, Liverpool’s door will be clearer and it is believed that a fee of £8m will be enough for PSG to part ways with Lavezzi even though they paid a hefty fee of €28.9million for him back in the summer of 2012.
Liverpool have had a poor first half in the current season and could strengthen come January if they find good and cheap players. Lavezzi at £8m would definitely be a steal for the reds who haven’t had the best of times in the transfer market after clearly overspending on the quality of players they have brought in. With Adam lallana and Lazar Markovic putting in inconsistent displays and Raheem Sterling being deployed as a striker more recently, Lavezzi could be a good signing for the Liverpool.
Lavezzi’s work ethic and pace will also be an added merit as Liverpool are set up in a way that demands their attacking players to do a lot of pressing.
