1 Team In London

There are a few players around Europe’s top leagues who are considered to be, quite frankly, a bit of a joke. You will probably have a few spring to mind right now. One that sticks out in the Premier League is Nicklas Bendtner, who over the last couple of years has been the butt of many puns. However, the last few weeks, before he was injured, he started to look like a potential back up plan to Olivier Giroud, scoring twice in a handful of games.

Chelsea are enjoying a solid season to date but there are a few who aren’t pulling their weight in my eyes. Here are three players who I think should be flogged this month.

Some say that attack is the form of defence, but if your backline is limp then you are always going to struggle in football. A club that can argue that the game should be founded on a solid defence is Arsenal, who sit top of the Premier League after 21 games.

Brace yourselves, for it’s that time of year again. We are currently in the middle of the January transfer window and rumours are rife. We haven’t seen a great deal of action yet but the speculation is picking up, and one man who has been linked to a move to Arsenal is Roma’s 22-year-old forward Mattia Destro. But who is he, and what could he offer the Gunners?

A couple of years back, if you had suggested that Michael Essien would be a target for West Ham then I would have laughed at you. Now though it looks as though there is a real of it coming off, as the Ghana international looks for first team football and the Hammers fight for their Premier League lives. In an exclusive report by Sports Direct News, it says that Sam Allardyce may look to swoop should  Mohamed Diame leave Upton Park, but what could he offer.

Some may point to karma, but when Theo Walcott gave a cheeky gesture towards the away end at Tottenham this weekend as he was stretchered off, the forward couldn’t have anticipated that he would be ruled out for the rest of the season and miss the World Cup. The news must have been devastating for Walcott, but I am sure there are plenty of Arsenal fans who share his pain as I can’t be alone in thinking that his absence could cause Arsenal to blow their title challenge.

After nearly 500 games in club football, over half of which have been in the Premier League, Joleon Lescott has established himself as one of the top English centre-backs in the country. Now, though, he finds himself in the background at Manchester City and having his name thrown about by the press in regards to a move away from the Etihad. One of the clubs mentioned is Tottenham, in the Mirror anyway, and I think that it could be a match made in heaven.
