Manchester United Can Win The Title, Falcao Is A Gamble By Chelsea: Former England International Exclusive On 888sport

Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham has tipped his former club for the title…under the proviso that Louis Van Gaal signs a striker.

The 51-cap England international – who scored the equaliser in United’s Champion’s League final triumph in 1999 – told in an exclusive interview, “They’re making an awful lot of signings and there are still bits going on. I would presume there is still a striker coming in for Man United and I’d be very surprised if that doesn’t happen. That could make all the difference.”

The new Stevenage FC gaffer offered his thoughts ahead of this Saturday’s Manchester United v Tottenham clash that kicks off the Premier League 2015/16 campaign. In a revealing interview Sheringham also talks candidly about Radamel Falcao and Javier Hernandez while modestly suggesting he would only be worth £4m in today’s market.

51-cap England international Teddy Sheringham has suggested his former club Manchester United may not have best utilised Radamel Falcao last season but insists the Colombian still represents a major roll of the dice for Jose Mourinho.

Further speaking about Chelsea the new Stevenage FC boss remains unconvinced on the summer move involving two of the Premier League’s heavyweights and a formerly lethal hit-man now in danger of becoming a misfit.

“It is a gamble. From Falcao’s point of view he had a couple of injuries last year and didn’t have the best of form. Either Mourinho has seen something in him that other people haven’t or maybe Man United didn’t use him in the best way. Whatever it is Chelsea will be looking to exploit that. He’s obviously a top footballer so it’s just about getting the best out of him.”

Sheringham was talking ahead of the season’s opener this Saturday that involves two of his former clubs, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Injury Update: Super Spaniard To Miss Chelsea’s Opener vs Swansea

Chelsea Injury Update

According to the latest reportsChelsea striker Diego Costa could miss the opening the opening match vs Swansea after limping out of the 2-2 friendly draw with Barcelona in Washington DC last week. The former Atletico Madrid star also missed the Community shield vs Arsenal where Chelsea lost to the Gunners by a one-goal margin.

In an interview, Jose Mourinho said,

“I don’t know if Costa will be fit (for the opening day of the league season).”

“We thought he could be ready, but suddenly this morning he was not comfortable.”

“Two days ago he was ready to play. When I told you two days ago he was ready to play he was ready to play. He trained normally on Friday and yesterday at the end of the training session he said he was not feeling good.”

“But Falcao will have had a bit more football, he will play against Fiorentina from the start. We have Remy too, so if we don’t have Diego I am happy with the strikers I have.”

Massive Blow For Chelsea! Long-term Target Expected To Seal A Move Elsewhere

Chelsea Transfer News

Felipe Melo is now close to seal a move away from Galatasaray. Reports from Italy revealed that the Brazilian star will now undergo a medical with Serie A outfit Inter Milan ‘within 48 hours’.

This is a blow for Chelsea, who were also looking to sign the Brazilian midfielder, with manager Jose Mourinho looking to strengthen his midfield depth ahead of the upcoming season. The 32-year-old midfield enforcer had revealed earlier that he would love to play for a Mourinho’s side in the premier league.

In his interview, the former Juventus man had stated back then, “I am a warrior, the English like that. I love Chelsea because I’m a big fan of Jose Mourinho.”

Barclays Premier League – Transfers So Far

With Chelsea running away with the Premier League title last year in one of the most insipid title races ever, it was obvious some of the usual suspects would bolster their squad in the hope of challenging the Blues this time around. Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool have all been extremely active this window and they don’t seem like they’re going to slow down anytime soon. Well, who doesn’t love a fiery Transfer Deadline Day!

Arsenal – 2015 has been sensational for Arsenal Football Club; they have been in fine form and have arguably played the most attractive football in the Premier League. So far, Arsenal has bought in Cech from their London rivals, Chelsea. Cech’s inclusion guarantees them 6-10 extra points in the season and is by far one of the safest bets at £10m.

I believe Arsene will get one more quality player this window to augment their attacking options. A nasty feeling he might get Verrati though someone like a Lacazette seems much more plausible.

Arsenal In: Petr Cech

Chelsea – The Champions have the strongest squad in the league, with two top class options for all positions on the pitch. Jose’s only marquee signing this summer has been; Falcao as a replacement for Chelsea legend, Drogba. The two-time FIFA Ballon D’or nominee had a forgetful season at Manchester United, but will look to redeem himself this time around. He will however be Jose’s second choice striker behind former teammate, Diego Costa.

Jose will look to get another Left back as a replacement for Felipe Luis before the end of the summer window. Could he hijack Otamendi from United or will he pay a ridiculous amount of money for John Stones?

Chelsea Ins: Radamel Falcao – AS Monaco (Loan), Asmir Begovic – Stoke, Nathan – Atletico Paranaense

Liverpool – After being inches away from winning their first Premier League to being 25 points off the top, Liverpool had a very disappointing 2014-15 season. However, Rodgers has spent some big cash on a few players and has strengthened other areas thriftily.

Firmino, Benteke and Clyne have all been big money, long term signings with reasonable experience. Benteke is a proven goalscorer in England, but some would say £32.5m is a bit too much. Mind you the fans won’t be complaining if he can stay fit and fire in the goals.

Clyne is a solid right back and Liverpool fans will be happy to see someone other than Johnson running up and down the right flank.

Firmino is the most exciting signing of the lot. The former Hoffenheim playmaker was the third highest-rated player in the German league last season, having had a direct hand in 17 league goals. His potential link-up with Brazilian team-mate Philippe Coutinho has unsurprisingly excited Liverpool fans all over the world.

Liverpool Ins: James Milner – Manchester City, Danny Ings – Burnley, Roberto Firmino – Hoffenheim, Nathaniel Clyne – Southampton, Joe Gomez – Charlton, Adam Bogdan – Bolton, Christian Benteke – Aston Villa

Manchester City – City with unlimited cash in their bank were surprisingly quiet for large parts of the transfer window. They recently started their spending spree by breaking their transfer fee record to sign 20-year old English International, Raheem Sterling. My opinion on Sterling hasn’t changed since I wrote this article almost a year back. He might not be worth £49m, but his talent is undeniable.

City were desperate for English players prior to the start of the season and they’re making good progress with their last 3 signings.

Manchester City Ins: Raheem Sterling – Liverpool, Patrick Roberts – Fulham, Fabian Delph – Aston Villa, Enes Unal – Bursaspor, David Faupala – Lens

Manchester United – United’s #1 priority in the eyes of many was to get De Gea a new contract though that hasn’t happened yet, he’s still a Man United player. Their other priorities include having pace on their wings, a stable central midfielder, a forward who can score 20+ goals and a rock solid defender. Being a United fan, I’m extremely pleased with the signings so far. Adding Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin in the middle adds the much-needed stability in midfield. The Red Devils probably wouldn’t have lost those games to Swansea and Leicester if they had them in the middle last year.

Even though they got Germany’s most decorated player ever, the player that excites me the most is Memphis Depay.
Depay is already a regular in the Netherlands squad. He has scored 34 goals over the past two Eredivisie seasons, which is more than any other player despite the fact that he is still only 21 and not an out and out forward.

I believe LVG and Ed are still out there looking for some world class players and I’m confident they ’ll be adding a couple more before the window shuts. Pedro and Otamendi seem the most likely.

Manchester United In: Memphis Depay – PSV Eindhoven, Morgan Schneiderlin – Southampton, Bastian Schweinsteiger – Bayern Munich, Matteo Darmian – Torino

With just a few days to go for the first game, I ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT WAIT!
Roll on August 8th!

Breaking! Chelsea And Liverpool Try To Steal Manchester United Target, Coach Confirms

Manchester United Transfer Updates

According to a report, Manchester United’s goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek has stated that a deal for Barcelona winger Pedro will be quite difficult to complete now. It was further being suggested that the club’s representatives were on the verge of having meetings yesterday to try and complete a deal for the forward.

The Spanish international has a £22m release clause in his current contract with the Catalan club, which he signed recently though he is quite keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Apart from the Red Devils, their league rivals Liverpool and Chelsea are still looking to sign the 27-year-old ace and a potential summer move is still on the cards.

Hoek stated that there several barriers in completing the signing and told Spanish daily Sport, “Pedro? We’ll see, many things can happen in the world of football, but it’s very difficult.”

United are not too keen on paying the full £22m fee and might consider making a bid if they can negotiate a cut-price deal for their target.

€20m Deal In Place By Chelsea, Move To Be Completed On Monday

Brazilian international Filipe Luís is all set to leave Chelsea with Baba Rahman set to replace him, has been the main story for almost a week. There have been plenty of claims going around that the former Atletico Madrid left-back will be returning to Spain, though there have not been too many concrete reports about the 21-year old Rahman’s move to Stamford Bridge yet.

Rahman is a highly rated Ghana international left-back, who enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season in the German top-flight last year with Augsburg.

Despite all the speculations, the Oracle has confirmed a few hours ago that the youngster has agreed personal terms with the Blues.

Mourinho’s club has a meeting scheduled on Monday with Ausgburg to complete the deal for Baba. Chelsea already reached an agreement with the player on a 5 year deal worth €2 million net a season, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The German outfit are looking to cash in on their star and are demanding a price of €20m, which will force the Portuguese boss to splash out some cash for his summer target. However, the remuneration received for Luis’s transfer would be more than enough for the Blues to complete the business.

Weird! Chelsea Clear To Sign Spaniard And Former Real Madrid Midfielder

Premier League champions Chelsea are at present in talks with Serie A outfit Napoli, as the Blues look to complete the signing of Spanish forward Jose Callejon this summer, as per reports. The Naples based club are looking to make some major changes in their squad under newly appointed manager Maurizio Sarri, after the Italian outfit failed to qualify for the Champions League last season.

Further, as per reports in the Italian media, Jose Mourinho’s side are now negotiating terms with Napoli, as they look to finalize a deal for the 28-year-old forward.

On the other hand, Napoli have offered Callejon to the west London side, as part of a bid for Egyptian international Mohamed Salah, though the reports suggest that the talks will take place over a separate deal.

Callejon would likely cost around the Portuguese manager a price of around £10.4m.

Three Young Players To Look Out For This Season

It’s time for another Premier League season, and while teams are building their squads by adding players who are able to win games, the youth are forgotten. takes a look at three players who could make their mark, if their progress is not hindered by further additions to their respective teams which could throw their first-team places into jeopardy.

1. Jack Butland (Stoke):

The sale of Asmir Begovic to Chelsea and the purchase of Shay Given, who is 39, means that Stoke are looking at Jack Butland to hold down a first-team place at Stoke in the long run. Butland has grown in leaps and bounds, and came good when he was given a run in the first-team towards the end of the season, in which he kept two clean sheets and made 3.5 saves per goal conceded.

He does not have the experience, but his awareness has helped him to react and pull off saves to keep his team in games, such as those against Burnley and Tottenham. He is a rising star and has been taken note of at the national level, and consistent performances could open up a slot for him in the England squad for Euro 2016.

2. Kurt Zouma (Chelsea):

Kurt Zouma

Kurt Zouma moved to Chelsea from St. Etienne as a talented young defender with the right attributes – power, strength, bone-crunching tackling ability – but needed time and space to develop into the finished product. Glimpses of his talent and his mental strength were seen last season, when Jose Mourinho offered him a chance to play ahead of Gary Cahill, when Cahill was out of form, in games against their major rivals. After that, he was moved into defensive midfield, when Chelsea needed to shut games out.

With the possible arrival of John Stones, he might be shifted into defensive midfield as cover for Nemanja Matic, and will play a role at the back if required, as Chelsea need to build their squad depth defensively.

3. Memphis Depay (Manchester United):

Memphis Depay

Depay has been brought into the United fold in another big-spending transfer window, and he has been touted for big achievements at United. Louis van Gaal has looked to use Depay on the wing or as a support striker, and his flamboyant runs have propelled him into the spotlight. He has dazzled during the beginning of United’s pre-season, as he has looked to hit the ground running, leading the line, scoring a goal and establishing a rapport with Wayne Rooney.

If he can continue in a consistent fashion, he can be “one of the best players in the world”. If he can win games for the Red Devils, he could achieve star status at Old Trafford, whose fans demand nothing but victory.

There are other players – Jordon Ibe, Libor Kozak, Tyrone Mings, Jamaal Laschelles – who could create opportunities for themselves if they pursue their chances, by training hard and seizing their chances.
