The Premier League – arguably the greatest league on the planet. The league which is so fast-paced, so physically tough, and so mentally demanding that a high percentage of foreign players coming to ply their trade in front of our cameras fail miserably and are sent packing to an easier way of life.
There are many reasons why we hate a certain club. All clubs have rivals, some more than others *cough* Manchester United *cough*, and some more fierce than others. Across the globe, social differences, race, location disputes, histories of arguments, money divides, political beliefs, and even religion plays a part in why we cannot stand those buggers from up the road.
There have been numerous occasions where professional football players decide they have had enough of the beautiful game and turn their hand to something else. We have seen footballers turn to other sports, turn to running businesses, go into the media side of things, or start in a career in coaching.
The role of the creative striker is to, of course, score goals, but more importantly to create chances for their team. The need to be technically gifted and possess remarkable close control, passing, creativity, and a certain intelligence that other positions may not desire.
The goal poacher – The man who was the goal hanger at school, the one who wants to bask in the glory and do none of the running, the player whose short sprints and clever movement inside the box sees them create space and put the ball in the net.
The Target man – Those overgrown oafs who are stuck up front to bully the centre-backs and create mayhem in and around the opposing penalty area. To be one of these you must have the following attributes: Good in the air, have a nasty streak, lead with your elbows, be able to control a ball on your chest despite it being hoofed at you at pace, strength to create some space for yourself, and also have thighs the size of an elephant’s.
You often see a nippy individual stuck up front to utilise the space behind the sluggish defenders, and these lot did exactly that to earn their wages, arguably, throughout their career.
