Injury Boost For Arsenal As Duo Set To Teturn Against Manchester United

Arsenal fans could see Olivier Giroud and Mikel Arteta in action against Manchester United as the duo have been training off late and could feature on Saturday.

Both of them were expected to be back in action in December but are ahead of the schedule. Giroud had appeared in just two Premier League games before suffering from a fractured foot. The Frenchman has missed a total of 15 games for the Gunners in that period and his return will be vital for Arsenal to get back some consistency into their league form.

Mikel Arteta too stepped up his rehabilitation in a bid to return early and it has worked as he could play a hand in the game against United if not start the game.

Manager Arsene Wenger revealed, “Giroud and Arteta are both available. It’s just a question of how ready they are. But they are available.

“[Giroud] is three or four weeks ahead of schedule.

“Originally we planned to have him back for competition at the beginning of next year. So he’s one month ahead.”

Defensive pair back in training

Arsene Wenger also revealed that Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Debuchy have returned to light training. He said, “Koscielny and Debuchy are doing well, they are out on the field again. We have to see now.

“Usually field work is three weeks away from full group training. Then there is fitness.

“It looks straightforward for Debuchy. It’s not inflammation, it’s just repairing surgery.

“For Koscielny, it depends how well he responds to training. At the moment he looks good.”

The Gunners were rocked by injuries to key players which hasn’t helped their slow start. Despite that, they are just one point off the Champions League place. The return of the injured players will be a huge boost in a period where the games come thick and fast. The North Londoners will face Manchester United on Saturday and a win will help Wenger’s side in increasing the gap between themselves and United who are their direct rivals for the top four spot.

Arsenal Injury Update: French Defender Reveals Comeback Date

Arsenal Injury Update

At-last some good news for Arsenal fans as injured French defender Mathieu Debuchy revealed that he hopes to return to full training next month.

Mathieu Debuchy  was signed from Newcastle United during Summer transfer window but sadly, his Arsenal career started very badly with a severe ankle injury he suffered during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City at Emirates in September. Debuchy recently started physical training in gym (see the pic) and he is now determined to come back soon to first team training.

Debuchy attended an event at Arsenal Soccer School Dubai (Emirates 7evens Facility), where he answered the questions about his injury.

Debuchy said, (source: Arsenal.com)

“My injury is now better,”

“I work hard every day with the physio and I want to be back on the pitch in December. I’m looking forward to it.

“I was really proud when I signed for Arsenal and it has been frustrating getting injured so soon, but I am focused on coming back stronger. I am very positive about that.

“Training at Arsenal is an extremely high standard. I’m nearly 30 but I’m still improving by training with players who are of such a high quality, like everyone at Arsenal.”

“It’s been more frustrating watching from the stands than being on the pitch. The last two games have been quite positive and hopefully when we face Manchester United we’ll come out on top.”

Debuchy’s return could prove vital for the gunners in their race to finish top four (title race may be?) If Debuchy starts in right, it will also allow Chambers to play in his favorite center back spot, increasing the defensive stability of the team.

INJURY UPDATE: New Arsenal Full Back May Face A Long Time On The Sidelines

Arsenal will have to wait to find out the severity of Mathieu Debuchy’s injury after the full-back was carried off on a stretcher in the 80th minute against Manchester City a few hours ago.

Manager Arsene Wenger revealed in the post match press conference, “Debuchy has a badly sprained ankle.

“How long will he be out? I don’t know, but it doesn’t look good. People told me they need a bit more time to assess how long he will be out but it’s a bad ankle sprain.”

The 29-year old has had a solid start to his Arsenal career after being signed from Newcastle for close to £10m as a replacement for Bacary Sagna. In his absence, Calum Chambers will be the 1st choice, and is the only remaining player who can play in that role, which could be a problem for Wenger as their defence might get stretched. Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs are the only remaining full-backs, but both of them are more comfortable on the left side. Carl Jenkinson’s departure on loan to West Ham leaves them with Chambers as the only option in Debuchy’s absence.

Deadline day signing Danny Welbeck put in a good shift and was unlucky as his effort bounced of the post. The England international too did not last the entire 90 minutes due to cramps. Arsene Wenger was pleased with the new striker’s first game, “He had cramps and he should be okay.

“He did well. I believe that he needs to develop his link play with our players but that is a bit normal.

“It’s sad that he couldn’t take his chance but overall every time he had an opportunity to find some space he looked dangerous,” he added.

The result against Manchester City was probably a fair one as neither could really take the game by the scruff of it’s neck. Manchester City haven’t lost in consecutive games since 2010 and having fallen behind, they’ll be pleased with a point despite taking the lead in the first half.

As for Arsenal, this was the third draw in a row, but what will hurt them most is the injury to Debuchy. With key games coming up in Champions League, where they face Borussia Dortmund away from home, and the Premier League, a full strength squad is vital to compete.
