Diary of a Sky Sports Soccer Saturday Reporter

Stuck in a traffic jam on the M1 on my way to covering Rochdale v Wycombe for Sky Sports, I pondered how much football has changed over the years.

After hearing former Arsenal player and Sky Sports colleague Frank McLintock claim that footballers were just as fit in his day, I wondered if the game had  altered that much. But I then listened to the radio commentary on the Merseyside derby and heard about the death of the slide tackle. I then arrived at Spotlands and I watched Rochdale play some lovely football instead of seeing the usual kick and rush football in the lower leagues. And then came a Rochdale goalkick, straight over the top of the away defence and the home forward netted the winner.

I started with a traffic jam on the M1 and ended with a goal via Route 1. Some things just don’t change!!!
